Uttarkashi search and rescue : Uttarkashi Landslide: SDRF Searches Debris-Filled Homes in Dharali
Uttarkashi search and rescue : Uttarkashi, 09 august 2025 : Amidst the widespread debris in Dharali, all that is visible are the tin roofs of houses. SDRF personnel are using cutting tools to slice through these roofs, creating entry points to get inside. They hold onto the hope that a glimmer of life might still be waiting within a home where, just a few days ago on the afternoon of August 5, families were living their lives. Now, these homes are filled with sand, boulders, and mud. A full-scale search operation is underway in these submerged houses.
While the weather can be harsh at times, it has mostly remained calm lately. This has allowed the search operation to be conducted on a war footing. To find the missing, modern equipment and dog squads are being used. Additionally, drones are conducting aerial surveys of the affected area to identify inaccessible spots and speed up the search. The advanced equipment includes Victim Locating Cameras and Thermal Imaging Cameras.
Helicopter rescue operations are also continuing to evacuate those trapped in the affected regions. By 12 PM on Saturday, 175 people had been airlifted from Harsil to the ITBP Matli helipad, while another 107 people were brought to the Chinyalisaur airstrip by Chinook and Mi-17 helicopters. After receiving necessary first aid, everyone is being safely sent to their destinations.
