Uttarakhand Cloudburst: Massive Damage in Harsil-Dharali Area
Uttarakhand cloudburst : Uttarkashi, 05 August 2025 : Reports of massive destruction have emerged from the Harshil valley in the Uttarkashi district due to a cloudburst. A flash flood in the Kheer Ganga river, caused by the cloudburst, has severely damaged the town of Dharali. This town is located 75 kilometers away from the Uttarkashi district headquarters and is just three kilometers from Harshil. SDRF, NDRF, and the army are reportedly engaged in rescue operations. The number of casualties is currently unknown.
The incident occurred in the afternoon. Amid continuous rain, the Kheer Ganga river suddenly surged, and the floodwaters swept away several hotels and other establishments in the town of Dharali. Relief and rescue teams are on the scene.
Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami is monitoring the relief and rescue efforts. Three nearby teams from ITBP have been dispatched to the site, along with four NDRF teams. Home Minister Amit Shah has expressed deep sorrow. He has offered his condolences for the loss of life and property and his sympathy to the affected families. Shah spoke with Uttarakhand Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami over the phone to get detailed information about the incident and assured the state government of all possible central assistance. The Home Minister is in constant contact with the state government, and the central government is ensuring immediate and necessary assistance to the affected area.
