Haridwar, September 8, 2025: A massive landslide from Mansa Devi hill in Haridwar early Monday morning has completely halted rail traffic between Dehradun-Haridwar and Haridwar-Rishikesh. The incident, which occurred around 6:45 AM, saw a huge amount of debris and large boulders fall onto the railway track, severely affecting train operations on this crucial route.
The landslide took place near Kali Temple in the Bhimgoda area, where a large section of the hill suddenly gave way. Fortunately, no train was on the track at the time. However, two people, including a priest, who were inside the temple during the landslide, managed to escape to a safe location. Following the incident, railway administration and disaster management teams immediately reached the site. JCB machines have been deployed to clear the debris, and railway technical staff are working on a war footing.
Around eight to ten trains have been affected by the landslide. Several trains, including the Vande Bharat Express, could not depart from Dehradun station on schedule. Simultaneously, all trains heading towards Rishikesh and Dehradun have been stopped at Haridwar station, causing major inconvenience to hundreds of passengers.
This is not the first time that a landslide has disrupted rail traffic in this area. A previous incident at the same location had suspended train operations for 20 hours. This recurring event is once again raising concerns about the safety of this sensitive hill slope and the railway track. According to railway officials, their priority is to clear the track as soon as possible, but due to the large amount of debris, it may take some time to restore services.
